Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has officially rebranded his political movement, the Movement for Change, as the United Party (UP Plus)  a move he says marks a new dawn in Ghanaian politics and pays homage to a historically significant name in the nation’s political evolution.

At the official unveiling of the party in Accra, UP Plus Chairman Abubakar Saddique Boniface said the rebranding reflects a renewed commitment to good governance, transformational leadership, and credible public service.

“Today, we present to you the United Party or UP Plus a political organisation meant to bring real change to governance,” he said.

“We will make a difference because of our focus on universal values and respect for competent leadership. We are not just selecting people to lead, but those who are credible, competent, and have a vision.”

Party leader Alan Kyerematen said the new identity symbolizes a fresh chapter focused on economic transformation, job creation, and transparent governance.

He described the rebrand as a platform to build a credible alternative to Ghana’s traditional “winner-takes-all” political system.

“A new dawn that will bring about economic transformation and massive job opportunities,” Mr. Kyerematen declared. “It will usher in a golden age of business and create prosperity for all Ghanaians  irrespective of age, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.

This new dawn will promote accountable governance, enforce zero tolerance for corruption, protect the environment, and promote sustainable development.”

The Electoral Commission formally issued the party’s registration certificate on October 3, 2025, cementing UP Plus as Ghana’s newest officially recognized political party.

Mr. Kyerematen’s rebranding of the Movement for Change into UP Plus is seen by political observers as an effort to consolidate his base and present a viable third-force option ahead of the 2028 general elections.
