The Asantehemaa’s funeral committee has clarified that banks, restaurants, transport operators, and pharmaceutical shops are exempted from the directive to suspend business activities on Thursday, September 19, in Kumasi.
All other businesses, however, have been advised to strictly comply with the directive, issued as part of preparations for the burial rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III no Thursday night.
Despite the exemptions, the committee emphasized that by 8 p.m. on Thursday, all businesses across the city are expected to close in honor of Asante culture and tradition.
This closure is to expect to create conducive environment for Manhyia royal family’s solemn procession from the Manhyia Palace to Bantama Baamu, via Breman, where the late queen mother will be laid to rest with her ancestors.
The burial of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, revered for her service and guidance to the Ashanti Kingdom, has drawn nationwide attention.
The rites are expected to bring Kumasi to a standstill as thousands pay their final respects to the queen from Monday to Thursday 18th September 2025.
