Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has rated former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s presidency as the most remarkable in Ghana’s history, calling for his achievements to be enshrined for all time.
Speaking at the inaugural Black Heritage Network Symposium in London, the Asantehene highlighted Kufuor’s feat in transforming Ghana from a Heavily Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) to a middle-income country within four years.
“In spite of our abundant natural and human resources, our economy remains unstable, unable to provide for the well-being of our people,” the Asantehene said. “But President Kufuor’s achievements stand out, and I hope his place in history is secured forever.”
The event, held on August 2, 2024, was a collaboration between Citi London’s Black Heritage Network and the Asante Professionals Club UK. Former President Kufuor, Citi Group Chief Client Officer David Livingstone, and other dignitaries attended.
The Asantehene’s tribute to Kufuor’s presidency was part of a keynote address that underscored the importance of the Asante Kingdom’s legacy in Ghana’s socio-economic development.
