The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Jobs Creation has introduced a new Workplace Safety Compliance and Monitoring Special Task Force to enhance enforcement of occupational standards across the Ashanti Region.
The initiative, spearheaded by Sector Minister Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, is intended to reinforce the efforts of the Factory Inspectorate Department by ensuring that organisations comply fully with occupational health and safety regulations.
According to Dr. Pelpuo, existing laws require all establishments whether public or private to maintain safe environments for their workers and protect their wellbeing. He emphasised that employers are obligated to register their businesses and open their facilities for the mandatory annual inspections carried out by the Factory Inspectorate Department to verify safety conditions.
Despite these requirements, adherence remains low, largely due to inadequate staffing within the Inspectorate Department, which has struggled to meet its yearly inspection mandate across the region.
Speaking at the official launch of the task force in Kumasi on Friday, November 14, 2025, the minister explained that the new team was created to help track unsafe practices, detect breaches in workplace standards, and ensure that businesses comply strictly with safety protocols.
Chairman of the ministry’s Health and Safety Committee, Daniel Ayikwei, encouraged members of the task force to carry out their responsibilities diligently and uphold high professional standards as they begin their operations.
