The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has directed security agencies to investigate two major security incidents that have occurred in the region in recent days.
In an official statement, Dr. Amoakohene addressed the disruption of the Council of State elections, which took place on February 11 at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC). The voting process was disrupted, an act the minister described as a threat to democratic principles. He has tasked the Ghana Police Service and National Security to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible.
The minister also condemned a mob action in Offinso, where a group of youth attempted to prevent the local chief from performing traditional rites related to the Akwasidae festival. Security forces have been deployed to restore calm, investigate the situation, and take action against those involved.
Dr. Amoakohene called on all residents to remain calm and respect the rule of law, assuring them that the security services are committed to maintaining peace and order. He urged anyone with relevant information to cooperate with the police to facilitate a swift and fair resolution of the matters.
“The security services will take the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents,” he stated.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to fostering peace and unity in the Ashanti Region, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to maintain stability.
