The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has firmly denied allegations of vote-buying during the party’s recent parliamentary primaries held in the constituency.
In a statement issued to media houses on Sunday, February 9, 2026, Baba Jamal said he appeared before a party committee chaired by Kofi Totobi Quakyi, which is investigating alleged inducement of voters during the primaries.
He said he used the opportunity to reiterate his innocence and reject claims that he attempted to influence delegates through improper means.
“I firmly deny any attempt on my part to induce voters,” he stated.
Baba Jamal, a former Deputy Minister, said the allegations were inconsistent with his political record in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
He noted that he had previously contested two parliamentary primaries in the area and lost on both occasions to the late Member of Parliament, outcomes he said he accepted in good faith for the sake of party unity.
According to him, during the most recent primaries leading up to the 2024 general elections, he secured 309 votes against the winner’s 452 votes, a result he described as evidence of his growing support among party members rather than misconduct.
He attributed his rising popularity within the constituency to what he described as his integrity, grassroots initiatives, and commitment to improving representation for Ayawaso East in Parliament.
The NDC parliamentary candidate expressed appreciation to the investigative committee for granting him a hearing and thanked delegates in the constituency for the confidence they have shown in him ahead of an upcoming by-election.
“I remain driven by our collective desire to bring meaningful development to the constituency and improve the lives of our people,” he said.
Baba Jamal concluded by reaffirming his loyalty to the NDC and his commitment to working toward victory in Ayawaso East.
