The Minister for local government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, who also serves as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda Constituency in the Bono Region, has credited his political success to the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
According to the minister, Asiedu Nketia played a crucial role in his rise to political prominence.
“I’m saying this because he made me the MP for Tain Constituency, from which the Banda Constituency was later created. At a time when I had no plans of contesting for the Tain seat, he personally called me and encouraged me to enter the race, assuring me of his full support. And today, here I am — the MP for Banda and the Minister for Local Government,” he stated.
The minister also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve in government.
He assured his constituents of his commitment to deliver on his mandate.
“Your votes sent me to Parliament, and now that I have also been appointed as a minister, I want to assure you that I will not disappoint you,” he said.
He disclosed that one of his top priorities is to transform the Bandaman Senior High School (SHS) into a Grade A institution.
“With the support of President Mahama and the Minister of Education, Bandaman SHS will be transformed into a Grade One school. The President is committed to making the Bono Region a center of excellence in education,” he noted.
Speaking during Banda Ahenkro Youth Canival as party Banda Ahenkro Annual Yam Festival celebration activities , the MP also addressed concerns regarding the operations of the Bui Power Authority.
He revealed that the company has been tasked to submit reports on its corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects.
“Bui Power has not been fully compliant with its CSR obligations. We have directed them to submit a report on all their CSR activities. We are also unhappy with their divisive local content practices, which have sidelined the people of Banda. How many people from Banda have been given job opportunities. That will no longer be tolerated under the NDC government,” he assured.
He further announced that plans are far advanced for the construction of roads and streets in Banda Ahenkro, as well as the establishment of a modern 24-hour market for the Banda District. “Currently, contractor is on site to construct a number of classrooms for the Bandaman SHS”
The minister added that the government is creating more opportunities for the youth through various employment initiatives.
“Through the Youth Employment Agency, more opportunities are being created. I am fully prepared to help qualified young people in Banda to take advantage of them,” he said.
He also acknowledged his brother, Eric Adjei, for his support in promoting youth development.
“My brother, Eric Adjei, is ready to support any young person who wishes to learn a trade through the Youth Apprenticeship Project,” he added.
