The campaign team for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has dismissed allegations that media personnel were bribed during a recent engagement in Accra on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
The accusations were labeled as “ridiculous” by the team, which clarified that while journalists who traveled long distances were given financial support, it was not intended as a bribe.
Anthony Abayifa Karbo, a campaign aide to Dr. Bawumia, addressed the allegations, questioning whether similar actions by other political figures were also being misconstrued.
“I want to know, when former President John Dramani Mahama met with the media, didn’t he also offer them financial support? Were they bribed? Were they induced? These are the questions we are asking. As the 2024 elections approach, political figures will continue engaging with the media, and those traveling from other regions will be supported in one way or another. This is a normal practice, and we should not entertain our opponents’ propaganda,” Karbo asserted.
In response to claims by the opposition NDC’s flagbearer that the media engagement was an attempt to divert attention from their manifesto launch, the Bawumia campaign team emphasized that each party has its own strategy.
“When the NPP was planning its program after the campaign manifesto, we never had the NDC in mind. The NDC and former President John Mahama should focus on their campaign activities and leave the NPP alone,” Karbo stated.
Karbo further highlighted the positive feedback received from the public following the media engagement, which he described as impactful.
He stressed that the NPP would continue organizing similar events to share their vision and policies with the electorate and the general public.
