Former flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed ongoing speculations regarding the selection of his running mate for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking after filing his nomination, Dr. Bawumia urged party supporters and the general public to disregard any reports suggesting that he has settled on a running mate.
“Ignore any information of running mate. I am yet to be elected. I have just filed my nomination, and the issue of running mate has not crossed my mind,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
The NPP flagbearer emphasized that his current focus is on securing the mandate of party delegates in the upcoming internal elections, after which discussions on a potential running mate will be considered.
Political analysts note that speculation over who may partner Dr. Bawumia in the 2024 race has been rife within party circles, as the decision is seen as a critical factor in boosting the NPP’s chances of retaining power.
For now, Dr. Bawumia has made it clear that such discussions are premature and urged party members to concentrate on unity and the electoral process ahead.
