Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has praised the Ghanaian media for their significant contributions to national development and his political endeavors.
He pledged that an NPP-led government would continue to work closely with the media and remain committed to upholding media freedom if victorious in the 2024 general elections.
During a press interaction on Sunday, August 25, in Accra, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the NPP’s long-standing recognition of the media’s crucial role in fostering national progress. “The NPP views the media as a crucial partner in national development,” he stated.
Dr. Bawumia also recalled the NPP’s historic actions to enhance media freedom, noting, “In our quest to expand the frontiers of democratic governance in Ghana, it was under former President J. A. Kufuor’s leadership that the criminal libel law was repealed, enabling the media to operate fully. The NPP will continue to partner with the media and ensure media freedom.”
Reaffirming his commitment as the party’s new leader, Dr. Bawumia added, “We’re partners with you, and this partnership will continue. We are dedicated to deepening media freedom.”
His remarks underscore the NPP’s ongoing dedication to fostering a free and independent media landscape as part of its broader democratic governance agenda.
