The Ghana Education Service (GES) has frozen the salary of a teacher at Bole Senior High School who is wanted by police over a viral video allegedly showing him engaging in sexual misconduct with a student.
The Director-General of the GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, said the decision took effect on June 30, 2026, after the teacher reportedly absconded following his interdiction.
According to Prof. Davis, the Service has handed the matter over to the police and is awaiting the arrest of the suspect to begin the necessary legal and disciplinary processes.
“We asked the police to cause his arrest. Our understanding is that he has absconded, so we have proceeded to stop his salary,” he said.
He added that the teacher would be taken through both legal procedures and the GES code of conduct once apprehended.
Prof. Davis assured the public that the GES would pursue the matter firmly, stressing that teachers whose actions compromise the safety and welfare of students have no place within the education system.
“We want to pursue legal action against the staff involved and also take him through our established processes—the code of conduct—so that at the end of the day, we apply the rules as stipulated,” he said.
The GES Director-General further revealed that preliminary information gathered suggests the viral video may not be an isolated case, with indications that the teacher could have been involved in similar incidents with other students.
The development has sparked widespread public concern, with stakeholders calling for swift action to protect students and ensure accountability.
The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) has also called for the teacher to be permanently removed from the education system and prosecuted.
The GES says it remains committed to working with security agencies to apprehend the suspect and strengthen measures aimed at creating safe learning environments across the country.
