President John Mahama has declared that a state funeral will take place on Friday, August 15, at Black Star Square in Accra to pay tribute to the eight individuals who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash earlier this week in the Ashanti Region.
Delivering a national address from Jubilee House, President Mahama also announced plans for an Evening of Reflection and Memorial scheduled for Saturday, August 9, at 5 p.m.
The event will be held at the forecourt of the State House to honor the memory of the departed colleagues.
He stated, “On Saturday, August 9, at 5 p.m., the nation will come together at the forecourt of the State House for an evening dedicated to reflection and remembrance of our fallen colleagues.”
The President further confirmed, “On Friday, August 15, an interdenominational state funeral service will be held for the eight heroes at Black Star Square.”
Additionally, President Mahama revealed that Books of Condolence will be made available for public signing at various locations from Sunday, August 10, through Thursday, August 14.

The tragic crash involved a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter carrying Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice Chairman and five other officials who were on an official mission near Adansi Akrofuom when the accident occurred.
