Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku, the outgoing Commander of the Ghana Armed Forces Central Command, has called for unwavering loyalty, service, and unity within the military as he officially handed over command to Brigadier General Albert Sison Ogja in a solemn pull-out ceremony held at the Kumasi Central Command on Friday.
In an emotional farewell speech, Brig. Gen. Opoku reflected on his years of service to the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation, expressing gratitude to his colleagues, subordinates, and the leadership of the military.

He acknowledged the challenges and successes of his tenure, saying, “I have done my best. I’ve made mistakes, but I’ve served with commitment, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together.”
He emphasized that loyalty, discipline, and integrity remain the bedrock of military service, advising soldiers and officers to remain steadfast in their duty to Ghana. “If you are loyal to your commander, God will be loyal to you,” he said, urging continued support for his successor, Brig. Gen. Ogja. “He’s a good man, and you are lucky to have him.”

Brig. Gen. Opoku described his time in command as a journey marked by dedication and sacrifice, noting that the military must continue to uphold the values that define Ghana’s security forces.
He called on the ranks to rally behind ongoing projects, including one he initiated with support from local communities and the diaspora. “Some couldn’t make it here today, but their contributions are felt. We must see these projects through for the benefit of all,” he said.

The outgoing commander also extended gratitude to various commanders, officers, and civilian partners who supported his leadership, naming several divisions, units, and institutions, including the Garrison Mess, the Tennis Club, and officers across the country. “Let us remember, our progress lies in our unity and in our duty to this homeland,” he said.
He ended his address with a heartfelt blessing: “God bless our homeland Ghana, God bless the Ghana Armed Forces, and God bless the Central Command.”

Brig. Gen. Albert Sison Ogja, who now takes command of the Central Command, is expected to continue ongoing reforms and strengthen the operational capabilities of the unit. Military officials, family members, and dignitaries from across the region attended the handover and pull-out ceremony.

The event marked not just a change in leadership but a reaffirmation of the values and vision guiding Ghana’s armed forces as they face evolving national and regional security challenges.
