The Ashanti Sub-Transmission unit of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a real-time data collection system across its five Bulk Supply Points (BSPs).
The initiative, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and system reliability, positions Ashanti as a leader in smart grid management within the country.
The five BSPs -Anwomaso, Ridge, Konongo, Obuasi, and Dunkwa—have each been equipped with dedicated tablet devices that enable field technicians to record and transmit data hourly.
This digital platform replaces the traditional manual system, significantly improving data accuracy, reducing human error, and enabling faster response to issues on the grid.
With real-time data streaming directly to the System Controller, operators now have instant access to critical information, allowing for timely analysis, fault detection, and rapid decision-making.
“This transition to real-time reporting has not only increased our operational efficiency but also allowed us to spot trends and act faster. It’s a game-changer for system reliability in the region,” said Ing. Andrews Owusu Peprah, Operations Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission.
