The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has announced award-winning investigative journalist Erastus Asare Donkor as the keynote speaker for the 20th edition of its annual ‘Kronti ne Akwamu’ Lecture.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, November 27, 2025, will take place under the theme “Galamsey: A Country’s Search for a Solution in Plain Sight.”
Erastus Asare Donkor, a multiple award-winning journalist renowned for his groundbreaking investigative work on environmental and governance issues, will lead a national conversation on Ghana’s persistent illegal mining crisis, commonly known as galamsey.
According to CDD-Ghana, the lecture will explore the root causes of illegal mining, the gaps in governance and accountability that perpetuate it, and the practical solutions that have remained “in plain sight” but largely ignored.

The Kronti ne Akwamu Lecture series, launched two decades ago, provides a platform for thought leaders, scholars, and policy actors to reflect on key issues of governance, democracy, and reform in Ghana.
In a statement, CDD-Ghana said the 2025 edition aims to shed light on the intersection between governance failures, environmental degradation, and community resilience in the fight against galamsey.
“This year’s lecture comes at a time when the galamsey crisis continues to test the country’s political will, institutional integrity, and environmental sustainability,” the statement noted.
The event is expected to attract policymakers, civil society actors, traditional leaders, academics, and the media to discuss actionable pathways to end illegal mining and promote sustainable resource management.
The lecture will also mark a milestone in CDD-Ghana’s continued advocacy for transparency, accountability, and environmental governance under its “Development in Freedom” vision.
