The Chief of Charambo, Nana Wucharey Gbeltoase III, together with his elders and the Assembly Member of the area, has declared that the community will no longer tolerate the presence of Fulani herdsmen and their cattle within their traditional lands.
Speaking to Kumasi Mail, Nana Wucharey Gbeltoase III stated that the decision follows years of destruction of farmlands, harassment of residents, and growing insecurity caused by the herdsmen.
He explained that despite several formal complaints and quit notices sent to the Pru West District Assembly and the District Security Council, the situation has persisted without resolution.
“We have issued several quit orders through the appropriate authorities, including the District Chief Executive, Samuel Agyapong, but the herdsmen continue to destroy our farms and threaten our people. We can no longer coexist with them under such conditions,” the chief emphasized.
The Charambo traditional council noted that the community’s patience has been exhausted, adding that protecting their land and livelihoods is now a top priority.
The chief called on all residents to stand united in preserving peace and security in the area.
Nana Wucharey Gbeltoase III also highlighted other pressing challenges facing Charambo, including the dilapidated state of the community’s health facility, which has not seen renovation for many years.
He appealed to the Pru West District Assembly, individuals, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to support the community by constructing a mini-market to boost local economic activity.
The Assembly Member for Charambo, Hon. Kwame Joseph, confirmed the challenges facing the local clinic and echoed the chief’s call for urgent intervention from stakeholders.
The Charambo traditional authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting their people and ensuring sustainable development within the community.
