The National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has called on political leaders and stakeholders to prioritize peace during the upcoming December 7 general elections.
As the crucial democratic event approaches, the Chief Imam appealed to politicians to moderate their language and refrain from making inflammatory statements that could incite unrest.
During a meeting with Muslim youth in Accra, Sheikh Sharubutu highlighted the vital role political leaders play in ensuring a peaceful electoral process. He stressed that peaceful elections are a collective responsibility, involving not only the Electoral Commission (EC) but also political parties, candidates, and their supporters.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, the Chief Imam reminded politicians of their influential position and urged them to maintain civility in their rhetoric. He also called on the EC to uphold transparency and accountability to ensure a credible election.
“As citizens, we must keep the peace,” the Chief Imam emphasized, urging political parties to be cautious in their communication and to avoid divisive statements that could fuel tensions.
