A delegation of selected chiefs from the Eastern and Central Regions, led by Nana Amoah Kwadwo II, Mawurehene of Aburi Apweasin (Alhaji Mustapha), paid a courtesy visit to Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak to explore potential collaborations on the Prisons Agriculture Project.

The project, spearheaded by the Ministry of the Interior, aims to enhance agricultural practices within Ghana’s correctional facilities as part of efforts to improve food security, self-sufficiency, and rehabilitation programs for inmates.

During the meeting, Minister Mubarak welcomed the chiefs’ willingness to support the initiative, expressing appreciation for their commitment to social responsibility.
He emphasized that such partnerships are vital in addressing systemic challenges within the country’s prisons.

“The enthusiasm expressed by the chiefs during our discussions resonated deeply with my vision for this project,” the Minister stated.
“Their readiness to contribute expertise and resources will significantly enhance the success of this initiative.”
The Prisons Agriculture Project is designed to improve the living conditions of inmates while equipping them with valuable agricultural skills that will aid their reintegration into society upon release.
Minister Mubarak highlighted that the project not only fosters sustainable development within correctional institutions but also promotes community involvement in rehabilitation efforts.
The chiefs, in turn, pledged their unwavering support and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the challenges within the prison system.
They assured the Minister of their commitment to providing guidance, technical support, and resources to ensure the initiative’s success.
The visit underscores the growing role of traditional leaders in national development, particularly in initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable groups and promoting rehabilitation-focused policies.
The Ministry and the chiefs are expected to engage further to develop a comprehensive roadmap for implementation.
