A Kumasi court has granted GH₵100,000 bail to Wontumi FM presenter Emmanuel Kwakye Asare, who has been in custody for two weeks on charges of publishing alleged false news intended to cause fear and panic.
Emmanuel Asare, who was arrested on August 12, 2025, is facing one count of offensive conduct.
He reportedly alleged on his programme that President John Dramani Mahama had prior knowledge of the August 6 helicopter crash that killed eight people.
The court ordered that the bail be secured with two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants. His lawyers are working to meet the bail conditions, after which he is expected to be released.
The prosecution opposed the application for bail, citing ongoing investigations.
However, Presiding Judge Samuel Bright Acquah ruled in favour of the journalist, referencing judicial precedents, including a case in which a young man was remanded for insulting then-President Akufo-Addo.
Asare is scheduled to reappear before the court on September 1, 2025, when the case resumes.
