Over 400 delegates from the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the Ashanti Region gathered in Kumasi to vote for the party’s Presidential Candidate ahead of the December 7 elections.
The primary, which is being conducted simultaneously across all regions, marks a significant step as the party finalizes its preparations for the 2024 general elections.
In addition to the primary, the CPP is conducting a referendum to amend sections of its constitution. The leadership contest is between the former Chairperson of the CPP, Nana Akosua Frimponmaa-Sarpong, and Legal Practitioner and Historian Frimpong Yaw Anokye.
Ashanti Region Results for CPP Presidential Primary:
- Yaw Anokye Frimpong: 116 Votes
- Nana Akosua Frimponmaa-Sarpong: 87 Votes
- Rejected: 3
- Total Votes Cast: 206
Following the announcement of the results, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the CPP, Gallo Emmanuel, called on all party members to unite and support the the candidate who will be elected as the Presidential candidate for the party into the general election campaign.
This primary is part of a broader effort by the CPP to solidify its position and present a strong candidate for the upcoming elections, as the party seeks to increase its influence and voter base nationwide.
