Cynthia Morrison, an independent Parliamentary candidate and former New Patriotic Member for the Agona West Constituency in the Central Region, say three of her supporters who were shot during last night campaign rally have been treated and discharged from hospital.
Speaking in an interview with GHOne TV, Morrison described the harrowing encounter, detailing how the attack unfolded and its aftermath.
While no gunshots were fired directly at her, Morrison emphasized the atmosphere of intimidation and the evident threat to her life.
“There was no direct attempt on my life, but the whole situation was controlled to instill fear,” she recounted, adding that her supporters bore the brunt of the assault.
The three injured supporters are reportedly recovering, though the attack has shaken Morrison and her team.
She stressed that while she remains focused on her campaign, the incident reflects a concerning escalation in the political climate of Agona West.
“I am not going to back down,” Morrison asserted, expressing her resolve to stand for her constituency despite the risks involved.
As an independent candidate, Morrison’s break from the NPP has created waves in Agona West, and the assassination attempt only amplifies concerns about the security of candidates and their supporters as the December 2024 elections approach.
Morrison urged law enforcement and the electoral authorities to intensify security measures, ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
