An assassination attempt on Independent Parliamentary Candidate Cynthia Morrison narrowly failed, leaving three supporters injured following gunfire during a mini rally at Agona Nyakrom in the Agona West Constituency in the Central region.9

The violent incident took place around 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 27, 2024, amidst a power outage that plunged the area into darkness.

According to local Journalist Yaw Boagyan, an unidentified gunman allegedly aimed at Cynthia Morrison, but the bullet missed her and struck three of her supporters, who were critically injured and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Witnesses claim that the gunfire erupted from a vehicle within a convoy bearing New Patriotic Party (NPP) posters.

The vehicle allegedly belonged to supporters of the NPP Agona West Parliamentary Candidate, Chris Arthur.

According to eyewitnesses, a person in one of the convoy’s pickups aimed a gun in Morrison’s direction, seemingly intending to harm her.

Although Morrison escaped unharmed, three individuals standing nearby were injured by stray bullets.

Eyewitnesses from Morrison’s campaign team described the atmosphere as chaotic and tense.

“The shooter targeted Cynthia, but she managed to evade the attack. Sadly, three supporters were not as fortunate and were hit,” one supporter recounted.

Following the incident, Cynthia Morrison and her team promptly reported the attack to the Agona Nyakrom Police Station.

As of this report, no arrests have been made, though investigations are ongoing.

Local residents, especially Morrison’s supporters, have expressed their anger, warning they would not permit any further political activities by the NPP in Agona Nyakrom until justice is served.

The injured supporters remain hospitalized and are receiving care.

The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to bring those responsible to justice.
