In a remarkable turn of events, a deceased former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Youth Organizer for the Subin Constituency, Mr. Richard Kwame Owusu Kwarteng, has posthumously appeared on a public list endorsing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the party’s 2028 presidential nomination.
Mr. Owusu Kwarteng, who passed away earlier this year in January, was a prominent youth organizer for the NPP in the Ashanti Region.
Funeral services for the late youth leader were held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Faith Salvation Church in Jachie, where he was laid to rest with final rites conducted on the same day.
Despite his passing, the late Mr. Kwarteng’s name, along with his active phone number, has been included in a recent endorsement list circulating on social media that shows support for Dr. Bawumia’s presidential candidacy.
This has sparked widespread discussion among party members and the public about the authenticity and implications of the list.
The endorsement list was released during a press conference held in Kumasi on October 28, 2025, by a group of 62 incumbent and 34 former NPP Youth Organizers from the Ashanti Region.

The youth organizers collectively rejected the presidential ambitions of former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, citing concerns over his suitability and describing his candidacy as a threat to party unity.
At the press briefing, the group praised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership qualities, describing him as a symbol of integrity, humility, competence, and inclusiveness.
The statement read, “Dr. Bawumia exemplifies leadership of peace, intellect, and charisma.
We firmly believe he is the best candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections and beyond.”
The youth organizers’ declaration further emphasized their commitment to the party’s democratic values and vision for national progress, underscoring Dr. Bawumia’s track record and his capacity to unite the party and the country.
While the inclusion of the late Mr. Owusu Kwarteng’s name on the endorsement list has become a point of curiosity and debate, the group’s overall message remains clear: they stand united behind Dr. Bawumia’s bid to continue leading the party and Ghana to a prosperous future.
