Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia Campaign, has responded to allegations and internal tensions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following their defeat in the 2024 elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen program monited by Kumasi Mail Aboagye clarified his role during the campaign and addressed accusations made by his deputy, Yaw Adomako Baafi.
Aboagye vehemently denied accusations that he mishandled campaign funds, emphasizing that his role as Communications Director did not involve financial management.
“I was not the Director of Finance, so I didn’t handle any money. If funds were needed, they were managed by the Director of Finance,” he clarified.
He added “For instance, at Multimedia here, we aired adverts, but you can ask your colleague Teteh if he ever came to me for money.”
Miracles Aboagye also dismissed claims of withholding media allowances.
He said “One thing I heard from Adomako Baafi that amused me was his claim that we didn’t give media money. I don’t pay bribes to media personnel.”
He then asked host stating “OB did I pay you?, was you expecting any money from me? Did you do any job for me?
The host responded “No”.
Aboagye revealed that Baafi was unhappy with his appointment as Communications Director, believing the role should have been his.
“From the onset, Adomako Baafi wasn’t pleased with my appointment. This created friction between us,” Aboagye noted.
He alleged that Baafi’s dissatisfaction led to personal attacks and a lack of cooperation during the campaign.
“It is on record and many people witnessed this; in fact, we even had face-to-face confrontations about it. He was not happy, so you shouldn’t expect anything positive from him about me”.
Despite being named as a deputy in the communications team, Aboagye stated that Baafi’s participation was minimal.
“He attended only one meeting during the entire campaign period and was largely absent due to health issues,” Aboagye noted.
However, he noted that “even when Baafi was healthy, he chose not to engage actively with the team”.
Aboagye highlighted that the communications team worked closely with the party’s existing structures rather than creating parallel systems.
He emphasized that his role did not extend to managing regional or constituency communication officers, as those responsibilities remained with the party.
Aboagye explained “During the campaign, the communications directorate realized and decided to work closely with the party. Therefore, we did not establish a parallel structure for the communications team. Those of us Accra, we served as communicators for the campaign, but we did not interfere with the party’s existing communication structure. As a result, I was not responsible for communicators; that responsibility remained with the party. Similarly, I was not responsible for constituency or regional communications officers; we left those roles to the party.”
