The Deputy Defense Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi, is on top of issues, as his promise that the Ghana Air Force would receive one of the acquired helicopters has been fulfilled. The Air Force has taken delivery of a state-of-the-art Airbus H175 helicopter from France.
In an interview on Fakye TV’s Daybreak morning show with host Kojo Marfo, Genfi announced that one of the newly acquired helicopters would arrive this week as part of a massive retooling effort.
“There’s a massive retooling for the Ghana Air Force which is ongoing,” Genfi said.
“As a result, for the Ghana Air Force, we’ve bought a helicopter, and it will arrive this week,” he disclosed.
The aircraft landed in Accra on Thursday after completing technical acceptance procedures with manufacturer Airbus Helicopters in Marignane, France.
In a Facebook post, the Ghana Air Force confirmed the delivery, calling it “a significant step in the ongoing modernisation and retooling of its operational fleet.”
The acquisition is part of a broader defense procurement program approved by Parliament to bolster the Ghana Armed Forces’ capabilities.
Genfi emphasized that the upgrades extend beyond the Air Force. He highlighted plans to procure new ships for the Navy, citing recent pirate attacks on fishermen who lost their belongings.
“If the Navy has to rescue them, they will need ships, and the only strong ships we have are not many, so we need to add more,” he explained.
“For the Army, which guards the nation’s land borders, Genfi pledged to provide “anything they will need” to ensure effective protection.
