Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the constituency level have been advised to close their ranks and work together for a resounding victory in the 2024 election.
They must not allow persons with parochial interests to divide them with few days to the election.
Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the party who gave the advice, said allowing disunity to fester among leaders could threaten the electoral fortunes of the party.
Don’t allow what I call “conflict investors” to break your front and weaken the strength of the party,” the National Chairman of the NDC told party supporters at Agogo in the Asante-Akim North Constituency after a massive walk.
Mr. Nketia who joined thousands of supporters for the walk as part of efforts to energise the support base ahead of the election, reminded them that it would only take unity and hard work to snatch the seat for the first time.
“There are people whose stock in trade is to create confusion wherever they find themselves. Don’t allow such people to derail your campaign,” he advised.
Such people, according to him, don’t contribute anything meaningful to the party, but would do everything possible to sow seed of discord between key members working for the collective good o the party.
He said under no circumstance must personal interest override the party’s quest to win power, and urged all feuding factions in the party to shelve whatever goal they are pursuing at the expense of the party.
Winning the Asante-Akim North parliamentary seat is possible if leadership in the constituency could work together and bring disgruntled members on board, Mr. Nketia noted.
He said every member of the party is important and stressed the need for leadership to take steps to address concerns of unhappy members, saying that such people could ruin the campaign out of bitterness.
“If leadership is divided it creates room for people belonging to either faction to work against each other and the party will suffer the consequences,” he pointed out.
The National Chairman reminded them that if the parliamentary candidate lose he loses together with his detractors and the party becomes the biggest loser.
“Don’t come to the headquarters lobbying for positions after fighting each other and allowing the NPP to win the seat on a silver platter when we win power,” he cautioned.
He said neutral persons would rather be appointed to such positions ahead of persons who prioritise their personal interests over that of the party.
