The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, has praised President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, describing Ghana as being on the right path under his leadership, despite his personal political affiliations.
In a video circulating on social media and cited by Kumasi Mail on Sunday, December 28, the traditional ruler said President Mahama’s policies have helped reset the country and stabilise the economy.
The Dormaahene stated that although he has never supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and does not intend to do so for personal reasons, he believes the direction of governance under President Mahama is positive.
“I will never support the NDC. I am not affiliated to the NDC and I will not support them till I die. I have been an NPP member before,” he said. “But where President Mahama is governing the country, anyone who says the country is not moving in the right direction is lying.”
He cited recent economic indicators, including the relative stability of the cedi, noting that the exchange rate stood at GH¢11.49 to the US dollar, which he said reflects improved management of the foreign exchange market since President Mahama took office.
The Dormaahene also pointed to measures taken by the administration to address long-standing financial obligations, including the directive for the Ministry of Finance to release GH¢1 billion to contractors owed by the state since 2017.
He described the move as a significant step toward clearing arrears and stimulating economic activity.
President Mahama assumed office nearly 11 months ago, following the 2024 general elections, and has since rolled out a series of economic and fiscal reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and restoring confidence.
