Speaking at a meeting in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Prempeh highlighted the crucial role drivers and transport operators play as key stakeholders in Ghana’s national development.
He described the transport sector as a vital pillar of the economy, providing livelihoods for millions of Ghanaians.
During the section, Dr. Prempeh share Dr. Bawumia’s vision of implementing bold and transformative reforms to address the longstanding challenges in the sector.
Key areas of focus included improving road networks and reducing fuel costs, both of which significantly impact the profitability and efficiency of transport operations.
He noted that the NPP administration, led by President Akufo-Addo, has already demonstrated its commitment to infrastructure development by constructing more roads than any previous government in Ghana’s history.
Major Road Projects Highlighted
Dr. Prempeh cited notable road projects completed under the NPP administration, including the commissioning of the Flowerpot Interchange and other key developments in the Greater Accra Region, such as:
- The Pokuase Interchange
- The Tema Motorway Interchange (Phase 1)
- The East Legon Underpass
Additionally, he highlighted the construction of the first-ever interchanges in Suhum (Eastern Region) and Tamale (Northern Region). He further noted that 14 interchanges are currently at various stages of completion across the country, showcasing the government’s dedication to building a safer and more efficient transportation network.
Appeal for Support
Dr. Prempeh assured the driver unions that Dr. Bawumia’s government would continue to prioritize the needs of the transport sector, ensuring it becomes a model of efficiency, safety, and profitability.
He stressed that the support of drivers and transport operators is critical to achieving this vision, urging them to vote massively for Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming December 7 elections.
