The Chief of Abotakyi, Akuapem Nana Sakyi Ababio II, has destooled Nana Kwaku Abetiah Sakyi from his position as Gyaasehene.
This decision follows Nana Kwaku Abetiah Sakyi’s recent enstoolment by the Okuapehene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo, as the Ntotoyehene of the Akuapem traditional area.
The move has stirred controversy among the Abotakyi traditional council, who debated whether Nana Kwaku Abetiah Sakyi should continue in his role as Gyaasehene or be removed due to his new position.
The council, adhering to traditional customs, decided to depose him on August 7, 2024, to resolve the matter.
Nana Sakyi Ababio II stated that the decision was made because Nana Kwaku Abetiah Sakyi had breached customs by accepting the new role without proper notification.
He emphasized that according to tradition, one cannot hold two significant positions in different divisions within the same traditional area.
“The Abotakyi traditional council met and came out with unanimous decision that he can’t serve two divisions therefore we have to depose him as Gyaasehene and allow him to serve Okuapehene as Ntotoyehene of Akuapem traditional area” Nana Sakyi Ababio II explain
