The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured UNICEM Cement Ghana Limited of steps being taken to address persistent voltage fluctuations affecting the company’s operations in the Ashanti Region.
The assurance came during a visit by ECG’s newly appointed Ashanti Sub-Transmission General Manager, Ing. Kofi Apau Ohenese, to the cement manufacturer’s plant along the Bekwai–New Edubiase road on May 14, 2026.
The visit followed concerns raised by UNICEM over unstable power supply and voltage quality, which the company said were disrupting production activities.
After inspecting the facility and assessing the situation firsthand, Ing. Ohenese acknowledged the power challenges and reaffirmed ECG’s commitment to stabilizing the sub-transmission network to ensure reliable electricity supply to the plant.
He noted that ECG was implementing measures aimed at improving power quality and reducing interruptions for industrial customers across the region.
UNICEM Cement Ghana Limited is regarded as one of ECG’s major industrial customers in the Ashanti Region, contributing an estimated GH¢9 million in monthly electricity payments. Company officials stressed that dependable electricity supply remains essential to sustaining cement production, controlling operational costs, and supporting Ghana’s growing construction industry.
The ECG delegation also included the Manager of Network Maintenance, Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, and the Communications Officer for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Collins Manu.
The team used the engagement to evaluate the technical challenges affecting the plant and discuss possible interventions to improve service delivery.
ECG said the visit forms part of broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure, reduce downtime, and build stronger relationships with key industrial clients in the region.
