The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has hosted 108 students from Kotei RC Junior High School in Kumasi on an educational tour of its Boadi Yard as part of efforts to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
The students, accompanied by nine teachers, participated in the initiative on Tuesday in a move designed to expose them to practical aspects of electrical engineering and inspire interest in energy-related careers.
During the tour, the students were taken through Ghana’s electricity value chain from power generation and transmission to distribution. They were introduced to real-life equipment, including transformers, switchgears, low-voltage distribution panels, and metering systems.
Engineers at the facility simplified complex technical concepts and emphasized the importance of discipline, safety consciousness, and continuous learning in the engineering profession.

The interactive sessions were led by Ing. Evans Edem Agra, Manager for Substations and Switchgears Maintenance; Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, Manager for Network Maintenance; and Ing. Christopher Anafo, Manager for Protection and Control. They were supported by two female Sub-Transmission engineers, Florence Abiba Nabila and Ziblim Yakubu Mariama, who provided mentorship and encouraged female students to consider careers in engineering.

Students and teachers described the experience as enlightening and inspiring, with several participants expressing renewed interest in pursuing electrical and power engineering careers.
ECG officials say the initiative forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme aimed at nurturing the next generation of engineers and strengthening Ghana’s STEM education pipeline through practical exposure and mentorship.
