Residents of Kumasi can expect a stable power supply following a major outage triggered by a 33kV cable explosion at the Ridge Bulk Supply Point (BSP) on Saturday night.
The incident, caused by a high-voltage cable termination failure, disrupted electricity supply to the Adoato, Agogo, Afari and Edwenasi primary substations. The fault left large sections of Greater Kumasi without power for several hours.
Addressing journalists at the ECG Boadi Office, Acting General Manager for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. James Mensah Yevunya, confirmed that the failure affected key substations serving the Kumasi metropolis.
He explained that the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Cable Team began emergency repair works around 1:00 a.m., transferring cables from the damaged panel to an alternative panel to restore supply. Power was successfully reinstated to affected communities by the following day.
Ing. Yevunya praised the technical team for their swift response and professionalism, noting that their overnight efforts significantly reduced the duration of the outage and minimized inconvenience to customers.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer for Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Collins Manu, assured residents of the Electricity Company of Ghana’s continued commitment to reliable service delivery.
He acknowledged that while certain technical faults are unforeseen, the company remains dedicated to prompt communication regarding both emergency outages and planned maintenance.
The ECG apologized to customers for the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening infrastructure and enhancing rapid response systems to improve power stability across Greater Kumasi.
