Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) over the re-collation of parliamentary results from the 2024 elections, calling it an insult to Ghana’s democracy.
Mogtari’s comments follow the EC’s ongoing re-collation of results at its regional office in Accra. So far, the commission has declared results in seven constituencies, all in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
These constituencies include Ahafo Ano North, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano South West, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, and Tema Central.
In a social media post, Mogtari described the situation as “an insult/affront to our nascent democracy,” calling it “unbelievable, unprecedented, and shameful.”
She specifically pointed to the re-collation in Obuasi East and Nsawam Adoagyiri, which led to the declaration of new parliamentary candidates, adding, “Let’s see what happens next.”
“What is happening today, what has happened in Obuasi East, Nsawam Adoagyire, Tema Central etc is an insult/ affront to our nascent democracy, unbelievable, unprecedented and shameful. In Obuasi East, the re- collation led to the declaration of a new PC, Nsawam A, same thing and lets see what happens next.”
