Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah is reportedly open to representing Ghana at the international level after previously delaying a decision on his national team future, according to Ghanaian sports journalist Saddick Adams.
In a social media post, Saddick Adams revealed that he had spoken with Nketiah’s family over the weekend to clarify reports surrounding the player’s possible switch from England to Ghana.
According to the report, Nketiah had earlier held discussions with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the national team coach but chose not to make a commitment at the time because he was still trying to establish himself at his club.
Now, at age 26, the forward is said to be more settled and mentally ready to commit to international football.
“Nketiah is now settled and at 26, matured enough and ready to ‘give his very best’ if Ghana calls now,” the source said.
The Arsenal striker, who was born in London to Ghanaian parents, reportedly told those close to him that he feels a strong connection to his Ghanaian roots, saying he has “Ghana blood running through him” and that his “identity is unquestionable.”
The latest development could rekindle the Ghana Football Association’s interest in securing Nketiah’s services, as the Black Stars continue to strengthen their attacking options ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
If Nketiah decides to switch allegiance, he would join a growing list of players of Ghanaian descent who have opted to represent the Black Stars at senior level.
