The Ministry of Education has rejected concerns raised by the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) over the composition and inauguration of the Governing Board of the Scholarship Authority, insisting that students are duly represented in line with the law.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, January 8, 2026, the Ministry said it had taken note of a recent statement by NUGS questioning aspects of the board’s formation but clarified that all critical stakeholders were consulted during the drafting of the legislation that established the Authority.
According to the Ministry, extensive consultations were held across the education value chain, including with student bodies such as NUGS, civil society organisations and other key education sector partners, before the law was finalised.
The Ministry explained that the consultative process resulted in an agreement that civil society organisations would serve as the umbrella body on the Governing Board. It stressed that NUGS’ representation on the board falls within this framework and is consistent with the provisions of the law.
“The National Union of Ghana Students is rightfully represented on the Board in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
The Ministry further encouraged the current leadership of NUGS to engage with its immediate past leaders to gain a clearer understanding of the processes that led to the agreed representation structure.
Reaffirming its commitment to good governance, the Ministry said it remains dedicated to transparency, inclusiveness and collaboration in the management and development of Ghana’s education sector.
It added that it values the input of all stakeholders and looks forward to continued cooperation in advancing quality and accessible education for all Ghanaians.
The statement was issued by the Press Secretary to the Minister of Education, Hashmin Mohammed.
