Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), election 2024 campaign Manifesto compilation committee has described fail NPP flag bearer hopeful Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten’s resignation from the NPP and subsequent formation of Movement For Change as unfortunate but insignificant to hurt the ruling party in election 2024.
Speaking on Kumasi based Abusua FM in an interview with Kojo Marfo the former Majority leaders of Parliament said that in the beginning Alan was somehow a threat to the NPP but not at the moment.
He explained that ” In my view Alan’s impact on the NPP in election 2024 can’t be significant enough to take us to opposition. When he started his movement you saw the huge crowd that followed him. Let’s give ourselves the next two (2) to three (3) months. They will all desert him to stand alone’’ he told Kojo Marfo.
He further said ” party’s like PNC, CPP and others have party structures at the polling stations that they use to fight elections. But when the elections are over what is the outcome they get 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 not have a serious impact. But it could win a major party election or cause you to lose election’’.
He said the NPP is not downplaying his political movement “ in 2008 the NPP’s candidate Akufo Addo only needed about 28, 000 votes to win the election at first round. That took us to the second round where we had to go to Tain constituency for the constituency to decide who becomes the president of Ghana in that particular election. Therefore every vote count but Alan impact will fade before 7th December’’ he reiterated.
Ahead of the elections 2024, Alan Kyeremanten who broke away from the NPP is projected to secure about 9% votes in the Ashanti region, in the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party.
