Richard Jakpa, Senior Lead Member of the National Democratic Congress’s National Security team for Election 2024, has issued a stern warning to individuals planning to compromise the electoral process.
In bold move, Jakpa cautioned that those plotting to wear fake police uniforms or utilize off-duty military personnel to escort fake New Patriotic Party(NPP) thumb-printed ballot papers will face severe consequences.
He said “Warning to those planning to wear fake police uniforms and off-duty military personnel to do unofficial duty to escort fake thumb-printed ballot papers will have the shock of their lives”.
He highlighted reports from the Ashanti Region indicating that ruling New Patriotic Party loyalists have been given ballot papers to thumbprint, but will be intercepted en route to polling stations.
Jakpa asserted “In the Ashanti Region, we’ve picked signals that NPP loyalists have been given ballot papers to thumbprint”
“They’ll keep the thumbprinted papers in their rooms and won’t be able to take them to polling stations, as we’ll intercept them en route.
Speaking in an interview with Kojo Marfo on AbusuaNkommo at ABUSUA965FM, Richard Jakpa warned anyone who accepts money to secretly handle NPP’s fake thumb-printed ballot papers will join its ancestors if caught.
He emphasized “Be warned: anyone who accepts money to secretly go along with NPP thumb-printed ballot papers to the polls will face severe consequences if caught”.
“Such people maybe want to join their ancestors because they are caught will regret it, so stay away from such illicit activities.
He cautioned individuals to stay away from NPP allegedly evil plots stating “to ensure your safety and enjoy Christmas with loved ones, avoid getting involved in the NPP’s evil plans”.
The NDC has vowed to closely monitor polling station traffic, discouraging any illegal activities.
“If they’ve already thumbprinted their ballot, it should be submitted at the designated location and not brought to the polling station. This time around, we’re closely monitoring all roads leading to every polling station. We’ve stationed observers in strategic locations to keep watch”, Jakpa indicated.
He urged National Democratic Congress polling agents to remain vigilant and report any irregularities, particularly if they notice individuals dressed in long sleeves arriving ar the polling stations after 1pm.
“Be vigilant if you notice anyone wearing long sleeves arriving to vote from 1 pm onwards. Keep a close eagle eye on them, especially if their clothing seems suspicious or concealing”.
He added “If someone’s attire appears unusual, such as a long-sleeved shirt covering their entire body, making it difficult to see anything but their back, consider them a potential suspect. As a polling agent, it’s essential to stay alert and report any irregularities”.
Again, Jakpa reminded NDC agents of their critical role at polling stations “do not accept instruction to sit far away from the action”, he cautioned. “You are NDC agent at the polling station to ensure the electoral commission officials perform their duties correctly”.
