The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has raised serious concerns in Parliament over missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
In a heated submission, he questioned how the containers, which were reportedly at the port for months, disappeared under the supervision of customs officials.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin criticized the current system, describing it as flawed and prone to corruption.
He alleged that there was a lack of accountability in handling ECG’s assets and called for immediate reforms to prevent further losses.
“This is a practice that has gone on for years. Are we pretending we don’t know what is happening? These containers have been at the port for two months, yet they vanish without trace,” he stated.
The Minority Leader also hinted at possible complicity by some officials and demanded answers on how such essential equipment could be lost despite regulatory oversight.
He called on the government and relevant agencies to take urgent action, ensure transparency, and hold those responsible accountable.
His comments come amid growing public frustration over ECG’s operational challenges, including frequent power outages and logistical inefficiencies.
While the government is yet to respond to these allegations, the matter is expected to be further debated in Parliament.
