Appiah-Kubi Baidoo, a long-serving member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Parliamentary Candidate for the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency, has officially resigned from the party, citing years of maltreatment and neglect by party leadership.
In a letter addressed to the Constituency Chairman of the NPP in Sefwi Akontombra and dated April 16, 2025, Baidoo described his decision as the result of prolonged mistreatment directed at him and his immediate family by the party.
He stated that multiple attempts to draw the attention of the national leadership to his concerns had proven futile.
“This decision has been arrived at following years of maltreatment meted out to me and my immediate family by the party. All efforts including written appeals to get the attention of the National Executives have yielded no results,” he wrote.
Baidoo expressed his gratitude to the NPP for the opportunity to serve as District Chief Executive and as a three-time Parliamentary Candidate for the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency.
He also extended an apology to his supporters and sympathisers who stood by him over the past two decades and may be affected by his resignation.
“I unreservedly apologise to the thousands of supporters and sympathisers who have been with me through thick and thin over the last two decades and who will in one way or the other be affected by my resignation,” the letter stated.
He concluded by thanking the party and wishing it well in its future endeavors.
Copies of the resignation letter were also sent to the Regional Chairman of the NPP in the Western North Region, the General Secretary at the party’s head office in Accra, and the media.
Baidoo’s resignation marks a significant development in the political landscape of the Western North Region, particularly as the party prepares for the 2024 general elections.
