His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has declared that Ghana is shifting away from seeking handouts and now prioritizes technical cooperation and partnership-based support to drive its development agenda.
The statement was made during a courtesy visit by a Danish delegation led by Denmark’s Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Jakob Linulf, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.
In discussions with the envoy, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II outlined his role as the traditional ruler of the Asante Kingdom and his contribution to national unity and economic progress.
He emphasized that his leadership focuses on maintaining peace and stability across the regions under his influence while steering clear of political partisanship.
“I have a responsibility towards my people to ensure peace. I support the government of the day in Ghana’s development, but I do not involve myself in politics. My role is to advise and caution for the preservation of a united and peaceful Ghana under a democratic dispensation,” the Asantehene explained.
He noted that his authority extends beyond Ashanti to other regions where he assists in resolving issues such as chieftaincy disputes and land administration peacefully.
“We have been consulted by the government in various regions to help resolve disputes harmoniously. Our peaceful environment is a foundation that encourages investor confidence and attracts foreign investments,” Otumfuo added.
Highlighting Danish investments such as Fan Milk operating successfully in Ghana, the Asantehene urged the Danish delegation to advocate for more investment inflows during their tenure, saying, “Ghana remains a peaceful country despite global uncertainties, making it an attractive destination for investors.”
He further stressed that Ghanaian development is now focused on harnessing technical partnerships that build local capacity and economies.
Otumfuo declared, “We have reached a stage in Ghana where we are no longer looking for handouts but seeking technical cooperation and support through partnerships to build our economies and everything.
“We are producing highly qualified young men and women from universities, the human resources are available. What we need to do now is create employment opportunities for these people.”
