“Fuel and Dollar Down, Maize Slashed”- Yammin fires up NDC base ahead of Kpandai rerun
Share on WhatsApp

Dr. Joseph Yammin, National Organizer for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has rallied party supporters in the Kpandai Constituency to turn out in force for the parliamentary rerun election on December 30.

Speaking to NDC faithfuls in Kpandai ahead of the poll, Yammin dismissed critics who claim the government has achieved little since taking office.

He argued that a massive voter turnout for the party’s candidate would signal Ghanaians’ endorsement of President John Dramani Mahama’s accomplishments in just one year.

“You haven’t seen anything yet,” Yammin declared, challenging skeptics “The real Ghanaian will attest to the facts. If you say you haven’t seen anything, are you blind? The dollar was at 17 cedis; today it’s 11 cedis.”

He highlighted sharp declines in commodity prices, attributing them to government policies.

“Last year at this time, a 50kg bag of maize in the Ashanti Region sold for 450 cedis. Now it’s 220 cedis. It’s only a blind or deaf person who would say nothing has changed.”

Yammin also pointed to fuel prices, initially stating petrol had fallen from 90 cedis to below 68 cedis per some measure.

A supporter quickly interjected, correcting him that it now stands at 45 cedis, prompting nods of agreement from the crowd.

“Everything in this country has changed from bad to good,” Yammin asserted.

“That must reflect in the elections ahead. We’re not just voting for our MP, we’re demonstrating to Ghanaians that we’re happy with what His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the NDC have done so far. Let people know a good government is in control.”

Background:
The Kpandai Constituency parliamentary rerun election is scheduled for December 30, 2025, following a Tamale High Court ruling on November 24, 2025, that annulled the 2024 election results due to irregularities at several polling stations.

The court ordered a fresh poll within 30 days, nullifying the previous win by New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Matthew Nyindam.

Parliament’s Clerk notified the Electoral Commission (EC) on December 9, 2025, declaring the seat vacant and prompting administrative steps for the rerun.

Only the three original 2024 candidates representing NDC, NPP, and another contender will participate, amid ongoing legal tensions and NPP vows to contest despite initial resistance.

Polls indicate NPP as favorites but the race remains tight, drawing national attention as both major parties rally supporters.
