Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene has revealed that funds will soon be released to contractors handling the stalled Krofrom Market redevelopment project, signaling a major boost for the region’s infrastructure in 2026.
In an interview with Kofi Asante on Ezra TV, Dr. Amoakohene outlined key developmental priorities captured in the 2026 national budget, responding to questions on how the coming year will transform Ashanti’s growth trajectory.
He spotlighted the Krofrom Market project under the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) as a flagship initiative poised for revival.
“Krofrom, for instance, is captured under the 2026 budget. Monies will be released to the contractors Attachy and his team in charge,” Dr. Amoakohene stated.
The minister detailed a broader government directive mandating that every Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly (MMDA) reserve 25% of their District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocation for 2025 toward developing 24-hour model markets.
This policy aims to deliver at least one brand-new modern market per district across Ghana.
In Ashanti alone, the initiative promises up to 43 new markets, Dr. Amoakohene explained.
However, he emphasized pragmatic adjustments for ongoing projects.
“Places like Mampongteng have an existing market which you can’t just go and start a completely new one when that existing market is not completed. So we made an argument that we should try to release funding to see the completion of that project,” he said.
For Krofrom Market, which has languished under KMA oversight for years, the Regional Minister advocated redirecting resources strategically.
“Instead of KMA starting a new market, they should commit their 25% funding to the market completion,” he urged, highlighting the need to prioritize stalled legacy projects over redundant constructions.
