The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has condemned a viral video showing a man suspected to be a landlord physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife, describing the act as a grave violation of human rights and an affront to national efforts to curb domestic violence.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Unit, the Ministry denounced the incident as “barbaric and unacceptable,” stressing that no individual has the right to abuse another under any circumstance. It reminded the public that acts of domestic violence are criminal offences under Ghanaian law and carry severe penalties.
The Gender Minister has contacted the Ghana Police Service, urging a rapid and thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrator is held fully accountable.
The Ministry appealed to eyewitnesses and anyone with relevant information to assist the police to expedite justice for the victim.
Describing domestic and sexual-based violence as a “national emergency,” the Ministry warned that silence enables perpetrators and heightens the risk to victims.
It encouraged the public to report abusive behaviour immediately to help prevent further harm.
MoGCSP reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with partner institutions to strengthen the national response to domestic violence.
Protecting women, children, and vulnerable groups, the Ministry emphasized, remains central to its mandate.
The public is reminded to seek help or report cases through the Domestic Violence Call Centre on 000-111-222, the Helpline of Hope on 0800-800-800 or 0800-900-900, or by visiting the nearest police station.
The Ministry assured Ghanaians that it will continue to push for justice, accountability, and improved safety for all victims of abuse.
