The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied reports that former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, is under investigation for alleged infractions.
In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, the GAF described the report as “false and groundless.”
The statement followed what the military described as a “malicious news item” alleging that General Oppong-Peprah, who is currently Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to Canada, was being investigated by the Ghana Armed Forces over various alleged infractions.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state emphatically that the story is false and groundless. No such investigation is being undertaken,” the statement said.
The military urged members of the public to disregard the report and refrain from circulating what it described as misinformation.
The statement was signed by Captain Veronika Addo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations, on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces.
General Oppong-Peprah previously served as Chief of Defence Staff before taking up his current diplomatic assignment as Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to Canada.
The Ghana Armed Forces called on all well-meaning citizens to ignore the report and help curb the spread of the misinformation.
