The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched a formal investigation into allegations of assault involving seven military personnel in Kumasi.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, March 28, 2025, reportedly involved three officers and four soldiers who are accused of arresting and attacking three civilians over claims of stealing a mobile phone.
According to a statement from the Military High Command, the civilians involved sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the altercation.
“The civilians are alleged to have suffered varied degrees of injuries”.
The Military Police, in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police CID, has commenced a thorough investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the case. The accused military personnel have been placed under closed arrest while the inquiry proceeds.
“The officers and soldiers have been placed under closed arrest whiles the investigation continues”.
Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations for GAF, emphasized the military’s commitment to accountability and discipline. He assured the public that any individuals found culpable would face legal consequences.
“The Military High Command wishes to assure all that anyone found culpable would be dealt with according to the law,” he stated.
The High Command has urged families and friends of the victims to remain calm and allow due process to take its course.
“We also urge the families and friends of the victims to remain calm and await the outcome of the investigations,” Brigadier General Aggrey-Quashie added.
