The Ghana Agriculture and Rural Development Journalists Association (GARDJA) has condemned a deadly attack in northern Burkina Faso that killed seven Ghanaian tomato traders and injured at least four others.
In a statement issued on Monday, the association said it was “profoundly shocked” by the нападение in Titao, describing it as a senseless act of violence.
The traders were reportedly operating in the area when the attack occurred. Authorities in Burkina Faso have been battling armed groups in several parts of the country in recent years.
The Ghana Agriculture and Rural Development Journalists Association (GARDJA) expressed condolences to the families of the victims and to those injured.
“We recognise that these traders were not only contributors to Ghana’s agricultural economy but also key participants in regional trade, strengthening food security and rural livelihoods,” the statement said.
The association described the deaths as a significant loss to both the families involved and Ghana’s agricultural sector.
GARDJA called on the Ghanaian government and relevant authorities to ensure the safe return of the survivors and to provide immediate medical and logistical support to those injured.
It also urged regional partners to strengthen security measures to protect Ghanaian farmers and traders operating across borders, warning that insecurity threatens agricultural value chains vital to national and regional development.
“As journalists covering agriculture and rural development, we stand in solidarity with the victims, their families and the wider trading community,” the statement added, pledging continued advocacy for the safety of farmers and traders.
There has been no immediate official comment from Ghanaian authorities on the incident.
