The Ghana Muslim Mission has marked its 65th annual National Conference with a call for increased religious tolerance in senior high schools across the country. The conference emphasized the need for students to be allowed to practice their faith freely, without fear of discrimination or exclusion.
The Ghana Muslim Mission is one of the oldest and most formidable Islamic organizations, formed in 1957 for the development of Muslims in Ghana. It is non-sectarian, non-ethnic, and non-partisan, and focuses on the practice of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad. Its aim is also to mobilize Muslims to be devoted to the progress and development of Islam by contributing to the general well-being of Muslims and non-Muslims.
The 65th annual national conference of the association brought together its members from across the country to discuss issues affecting its members, the educational units, and the religion as a whole. Speaking at the event, Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Mr. Afriyie Ankrah, called for religious tolerance among the various senior high schools in the country.
” The Quran tells us that we all are the descendants from Adam and therefore we are one people, this reaffirmed the cordial relationship between Muslims and Christians for example during Christmas Muslim jion the Christian community in celebration and during eid celebration Christian join the Muslim, this clearly tells us that we are one and that makes Ghana the beacon of peaceful coexistence. We therefore have to tge reflection of such in our Senior High schools”. He stated
The National Chairman of the Ghana Muslim Mission, Sheikh Dr. Amin Bonsu, disclosed that the mission has begun the establishment of Islamic universities at Kumasi and in the Ahafo Region to help expand access to education.
” As part of our effort to increase access to education accross the country let me state that we have begun with the establishment of Univerties which already one has begun in Kumasi and other one will also be built at Ahafo. This is to help reduce the pressure on government resources and to increase access to education in the country”. He indicated.
The Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, urged the Muslim community to join the security sector to fight against drug abuse among the youth.
” Let me appeal to the Zongo community to join hands with the security sector to curb the illicit sale of drugs and the usage of it among our children in the Zongo community, it is destroying the future of children”. He stressed
The four-day conference was held under the theme: “A mercy to orphan, uplifting the future of our nation.”
