Ghana’s Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has reaffirmed the country’s unwavering commitment to protecting refugees and promoting durable solutions to the global refugee crisis.
Speaking at the 76th Annual Plenary Session of the UNHCR Executive Committee in Geneva, the Minister said Ghana continues to make significant progress in collaboration with countries of origin to ensure the effective implementation of all aspects of durable solutions, including their legal dimensions.
He emphasized that Ghana remains steadfast in upholding the ideals of the Global Compact for Refugees (GCR) and continues to demonstrate leadership in advancing sustainable interventions for refugees and host communities.
Highlighting Ghana’s partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Mr. Mubarak said the government is actively implementing the Ghana Refugee Agribusiness Sustainability Programme (GRASP) — a flagship initiative aimed at creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for refugees and their host communities.
He added that Ghana has also partnered with neighbouring countries to develop a sub-regional strategy focused on strengthening national security, enhancing refugee protection, and facilitating durable cross-border solutions.
The Interior Minister commended outgoing UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi for his “exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to safeguarding the rights and dignity of refugees worldwide.”
The Interior Minister remarks underscore Ghana’s continued role as a regional leader in refugee protection, working closely with international partners to advance peace, security, and humanitarian development.
