Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku has been named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for September.
The Ghanaian international, has taken on more responsibility following the departure of Ephron Mason-Clark. Whether floating across the front line or cutting in from his wing, his three goals in four games either equalised or put Posh in front on each occasion.
Poku, a former Colchester Unites star said: “I am delighted to win the award. This is the first time that I have won an award like this, so I am very grateful. It was a good month personally and I was happy to be able to contribute with goals.
“I have done a lot of work in the off season about positional play and timing my runs right so I have the opportunity to create or score so it is nice to see it paying off, but I have to maintain those standards moving forward.”
Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “Peterborough might have felt short in attack after Ephron Mason-Clark left for Coventry, but Kwame Poku has stepped up and become the main man for The Posh.
“His adaptability is a real asset for Darren Ferguson, he looks comfortable playing anywhere across the front line and is in great form in front of goal.”
Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies said: “Versatile Peterborough forward Kwame Poku was in excellent form during September, scoring in three consecutive games. The 23-year-old is currently joint top scorer in League One with six goals.
“Initially absent from the top scorer betting before the season started, the Ghanaian international has seen his odds shorten to 18/1 from 33/1 following his latest strike.”
