The leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has extended a message of solidarity to the management and staff of Kumasi-based Pure FM, following a fire outbreak last Wednesday that severely damaged the station’s facilities.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on the increasing incidents of media brutality by security personnel, the President of the GJA, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, described the fire as a major setback not only for Pure FM but also for radio listeners in Kumasi.
“As a station known for its commitment to credible journalism and vibrant public service broadcasting, the loss of its operational equipment is deeply felt by the GJA and the broader journalism community,” he stated.
Mr. Dwumfour revealed that, as part of efforts to show support, he and the GJA General Secretary paid a working visit to Pure FM’s premises in Kumasi to assess the extent of the damage.
He appealed to the general public, corporate institutions, philanthropists, and media professionals to support Pure FM in its rebuilding efforts.
“In times like these, solidarity and collective support are needed most to ensure the survival and resilience of independent media. We commend the staff of Pure FM for their courage, professionalism, and perseverance in the face of adversity,” he said.
He assured the station that the GJA stands firmly with Pure FM during this difficult period and will continue to provide the necessary support to help it recover and emerge even stronger.
Pure FM, managed by veteran broadcaster Kwame Adinkra, is part of the Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) media conglomerate.
